Joy Smith Harps & Story Telling
Joy Smith
Harpist. Storyteller
About Me
Born in Cornwall, Joy studied harp, flute, piano and harpsichord at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester from the age of eight. She went on to study English at Oxford University before winning a scholarship on the postgraduate harp course at Trinity College of Music, London, where she gained the United Kingdom Harp Association Prize. Her eclectic taste in music has led her to play in an unusual array of venues from the Royal Albert Hall to the Café de Paris and she is regularly found travelling the world with her arsenal of seven harps. Joy is co-director of Eclipse and has performed with many other early music groups including The Gabrieli Consort, The Sixteen and the New London Consort. Joy has given lectures on electric harp at Hatfield University and baroque harp masterclasses and taught at the Guildhall school of Music and Drama and the International Harp Course.
Joy is also THE QUEEN OF HEARTS, a Story-Teller of renowned talent who teases you into letting down your guard and inspires you to ignite your imagination
